One of my favorite volunteer activities in the city is walking dogs, usually pitbulls, for the Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition in Williamsburg. You get some quality dog-time and get to see the scenic part of hipster-ville.

Bastille Day in Cobble Hill, Smith Street, Brooklyn
Smith St. turned into Petanque Courts. Bastille Day in Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, originally uploaded by zokuga.
Francophiles having a block party. Lots of Petanque and merguez (a baguette with sausage and french fries).
Making merguez.
It was hard to tell if this street foosball setup was the French poking fun at themselves for their horrible, hilarious showing at the World Cup. Or if that’s really how their team trains for the World Cup.
Mermaid Parade 2010, Coney Island
If I lived equidistant between Coney Island and Central Park, I don’t know if I could decide between the two where to put the towel. I was so impressed with how well kept Coney was that I told to my friend that it had been overly maligned by my friends, but I guess it helps to come after a massive renovation of the area.
A++ would recommend again
